How do I find online versions of magazines and newspapers?

Many magazines and databases are available through the library's database collection.

Answer

In addition to peer-reviewed journals the library has access to many commercial magazines and newspapers.*

To find out if the library subscribes to a particular magazine or newspaper, use the drop-down menu under 'Search,' at the top of the Library's homepage, and select 'Journal Search.' Then search for your title.

After you search by title you will see the results list, which will indicate if the library subscribes to the title. In this example you can see that we do have Rolling Stone in print and available online.

When you click on the first title, Rolling Stone,  you will see more details about access and dates.

Databases with Rolling Stone

Now you can see that Rolling Stone is available in Academic Search Ultimate, Gale General OneFile, and Research Library databases. You can also see the years of coverage, for example available from 08/09/1990 in Academic Search Ultimate. It is also shelved by title in the Library.

The results list can sometimes be confusing because of different date ranges, regional variations, database holdings, and similarly titled periodicals. If you can't find what you're looking for check with one of the librarians.

*Commercial magazines and newspapers have ads, and are the kinds of titles you might find at book store or magazine stand. Examples include The Economist, Financial Times, Rolling Stone, Mother Jones, The Believer, Wall Street Journal, etc.
